When I began training in psychoanalysis, my colleagues at the community agency where I worked said, “Why on earth would you want to do that?!” Most were convinced the analytic model was a dinosaur with no practical application outside of luxurious offices. In fact, I’ve found analytic principles, theory, and interventions of critical use with populations not typically identified as compatible with psychoanalytic treatment, and an invaluable lens for assessing the world around us. This presentation will share examples of such applications and invite discussion from participants.
